A good resume writing book
Tuesday, April 8th, 2008A few friends and job seekers in general have asked me lately to recommend a good book with tips on how to write a good resume and cover letter. Here goes my favourite one so far:
The Perfect Resume, by Tom Jackson.
The book has quite a few excellent examples of both outstanding resumes and cover letters. It also takes you through the process of tailoring your resumes and cover letters to your specific skills, experience, background, industry and target job opportunity, a essential task if you want to stand out from the crowd.
There are certainly a lot of books on this subject out there, and probably a few really good ones too. I haven’t read them all, but this one just seems to be a very good one overall, and also serves as a good reference book to consult whenever needed.
Having said this, the perfect resume and cover letter will only get you that far. Today more than ever before, it is also very important that you work hard on your networking efforts (both on-line and off-line) and your on-line presence. These last topics exceed the scope of this short article, but we will probably cover them soon.
