A few friends and job seekers in general have asked me lately to recommend a good book with tips on how to write a good resume and cover letter. Here goes my favourite one so far:
The Perfect Resume, by Tom Jackson.
The book has quite a few excellent examples of both outstanding resumes and cover letters. It also takes you through the process of tailoring your resumes and cover letters to your specific skills, experience, background, industry and target job opportunity, a essential task if you want to stand out from the crowd.
There are certainly a lot of books on this subject out there, and probably a few really good ones too. I haven’t read them all, but this one just seems to be a very good one overall, and also serves as a good reference book to consult whenever needed.
Having said this, the perfect resume and cover letter will only get you that far. Today more than ever before, it is also very important that you work hard on your networking efforts (both on-line and off-line) and your on-line presence. These last topics exceed the scope of this short article, but we will probably cover them soon. Meanwhile, you may want to consider creating your free job seeker profile in our site, letting employers and recruiters find and contact you regarding job opportunities!
Good luck on your job search! Know about other good resume or cover letters writing books? Comment on!

If you are looking for a job or internship, attending career fairs is a great idea. Not only you will have a better chance at getting a job, you will also get exposure to local employers, develop contacts with human resources and hiring managers, learn about the local job market and more.
Here goes a short list with some of the upcoming Spring career fairs:
Tip for job seekers: always review the job fair information before attending to ensure it actually fits your search. Some of the things to look for are: 1) Participating employers, 2) Is it open to general public, 3) Does it require pre-registration, 4) Is it industry-specific, 5) Who is organizing it, etc.
Good luck with your job search!
P.S.: Feel free to send us links to upcoming career fairs you would like us to add to the list!
